Summary

On the Road

“... nothing behind me, everything ahead of me as is ever so on the road ...”

Jack Kerouac’s On the Road is based upon the soul searching and life-reflecting travels of Sal Paradise and his friend Dean Moriarty. At the outset there is a sense of being in a state of desperation and disillusion, with a great desire and inner need to break free from life’s frustrations and find an identity. It is a book reflecting broken dreams and shattered plans under the shadow of death that follows the journey-makers. The quest is to find something meaningful to hold on to and be somebody.

The College sector can be viewed as also being on the road, on a journey to get to a better place and better times ahead. Together with our companions, the Scottish Funding Council and the Scottish Government, the sector can dust itself down from the hard-knocks and travel this road together. The key is to get to where we are going and avoid the possibility that “death will overtake us before Heaven.”

The annual Finance Development Network conference is this year due to be held in the Dunblane Hydro on the 1 and 2 June 2017. The event provides an opportunity for delegates to informally network with both colleagues from across Scotland as well as a number of sponsor organisations.

This year we anticipate a wide range of sponsors attending from accountancy firms to procurement organisations. The event will include a number of workshops where you can hear about the latest developments from a number of organisations. There will be a dinner on the evening of 1 June 2017 where delegates and sponsors can continue to discuss either business or indulge in a “race night” (no currency either pounds or Euros required)
