Summary

This conference will focus on how education successfully develops the nursing workforce.
During the day key speakers and delegates will together debate the main challenges facing Colleges and Universities in relation to widening participation and the implementation of the Future Nurse Standards.

The event creates a valuable opportunity to explore, discuss, network, collaborate and share ideas around two key areas of national policy/regulatory development for the nursing workforce in Scotland:

Future Nurse: the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) new standards for education, assessment and supervision, and proficiency for registered nurses were published in May 2018. The newly approved programmes will commence during September 2020 in Scotland. The implementation of these new standards will be discussed during the morning sessions.

The CNO Commission on Widening Participation in Nursing and Midwifery Education and Careers report was published in December 2017.  It aims to maximise opportunities to participate in nursing and midwifery education and careers, and this work sets the context for the afternoon workshops.

An anticipated outcome from this conference is the creation of a Forum for Action which will take forward any actions identified during the conference.

Who should attend

College and university staff involved in developing the new pre-registration nursing programmes and/or delivering qualifications that prepare students for access or articulation to nursing degrees; and staff from NHS boards.
