Summary

1.    For the past year, there has been a Languages in FE Group facilitated by SCILT which aims to raise awareness of the importance of languages and culture and to have a space for language lecturers to network with each other as well as other stakeholders.

2.    In addition, Education Scotland ran an ESOL Network for practitioners with similar aims around practice sharing and networking. Through discussions, different partners realised that there were shared values including the importance of multi-lingualism, multi-culturalism and global perspectives.

3.    Recently there have been proposals to form a joint professional network facilitated by CDN bringing together language lecturers, ESOL practitioners and relevant stakeholders.  This meeting will launch the network and form a steering group to progress relevant issues
