Reflective Practice for Board Secretaries: Designing and Using a Professional Journal

Please note: This course will run from Tuesday 02 October 2018 - 21 May 2019. Details of individual sessions and course structure can be found below. Delegates will be charged £500 for the full course and must attend each workshop and mentor session.

Programme run by Dr. Ron Hill, Honorary Professor of Education, University of Stirling in partnership with CDN.

This bespoke training programme focuses on the development of reflective practice amongst Board Secretaries.

The course will be structured as follows:

  • 1 half day workshop training
  • 3 mentoring sessions over one academic year with Prof. Hill or another qualified mentor. Arranged between each participant and their mentor.
  • 1 half day debrief and practice sharing session

Professional commitment
Workshop sessions are held at our premises in Stirling and you will be expected to attend these on the dates below.
Between sessions you will also be working with your assigned mentor to further develop your thinking and understanding.

Workshop 2: Tuesday 21 May 2019 1000-1300

Before applying for the course you must have the commitment of your line manager (or other as appropriate) to support you on the course and for the payment of fees.

  • To consider and promote the benefits of reflective practice for professionals, especially ‘isolated’ professionals
  • To appreciate the formation and use of a structured professional journal, based on critical incident analysis
  • To consider how the use of a structured professional journal can assist and support the board secretary and, thereby, improve board performance
  • To consider on the process of initial and ongoing support in a mentor: mentee arrangement
