Increasingly, video is becoming the new normal in education – from lecturers using and producing their own content, to students capturing evidence of skills mastered. And the technology to facilitate all of this uses the best camera you have, the one you carry with you, your mobile phone or tablet.

The #MadeOnAMobile film-making workshop will take you through the steps of setting up, capturing, editing and sharing video content from a single mobile device. Ideal for those new to or just dabbling with video production, there will be support for you to work at your own pace to produce your footage.

We’ll also explore the phenomenon of Live Video Broadcasting to share your content with a live audience.

A mobile phone or tablet is all that you will need, but we’ll take a look at a range of inexpensive and handy gadgets – tripods, lenses, mics, etc. to enhance your devices and better enable creative film-making approaches.

Each workshop is limited to 12 participants so that everyone gets the most out of the day. Included on the day:

• Preparation for the shoot (storyboarding, shot lists)
• Camera angles and composition
• Interview vs. Direct to Camera
• Indoor/Outdoor (weather permitting) shoots
• Film-making techniques, such as time-lapse, slo-mo and useful filtering applications
• Editing on Apple iMovie
• Sharing on social media
• Live broadcasting

The workshop is designed around the iPhone or iPad and requires you to install a selection of free apps, such as Apple iMovie, prior to attending

  

Jon Gill from Playful Communications has over 20 years’ experience in design & visual communications, working with SMEs, local authorities, schools and colleges. He specialises in collaborative and participative workshops for improvement, learning and evaluation and has applied his design-led approach to healthcare, social services, education and organisational development.

He holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Learning, Teaching and Assessment in Higher Education and has lectured regularly since 2010, and presented at national conferences on digital media, games-based learning and eAssessment.
