What to Expect from the College Expo20

 

College Expo20 will take place on Thursday 11 – Friday 12 June at the brand new Forth Valley College campus in Falkirk. College Expo is Scotland’s landmark event for everyone working, studying or involved in post-16 education and training. Free to attend, it is a celebration of college excellence, and our national focus for staff development and practical innovation.

This year, the overarching theme is be ‘Skills Supply and Demand: Addressing the Mismatch’. This theme will be reflected across a 2-day programme – expect inspirational keynote speakers, seminars and workshops, plenty of debate, as well as hands-on professional learning.

Meet the Keynote Speakers

Thursday 11 June

 
Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science
Richard was first elected as a North East MSP in 1999 before winning the Moray by-election in 2006. He was Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and the Environment in the Scottish Government between 2007 and 2016. He was appointed Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science in September 2018. Richard was born in Paisley in 1969 and was educated at Williamwood High School, Clarkston, Glasgow. He graduated with BA Honours in Political Studies from Stirling University. Richard’s first employment was with the South of Scotland Electricity Board and prior to his election to Holyrood worked for Dundee City Council. He was also employed as constituency office manager for Alex Salmond from 1994 to 1998. Richard is married with two sons and lives near Elgin.
 
 
 
   Richard Sagar MBE
Richard runs Sagar Smart Homes, a smart building technology business. Based in London, and now in their tenth year of trading, based in London their intelligent building control systems are installed in some of the world finest homes, hotels and yachts.

Richard began his career studying for his Electrical Installation SVQ Level 3 at Dumfries and Galloway College, winning the SECTT Apprentice of the Year competition in 2008, followed by winning both the Electro-technical Modern Apprenticeship Competition (eMac) and UK Skillelectric final in the same year. In 2009 Richard represented Team UK at WorldSkills Calgary, competing against 32 international competitors, and winning Gold. In 2012 Richard was recognised in the Queen's birthday honours list with an MBE for his role as an ambassador to young people.

This year, as well as delivering some exciting projects in locations around the world, including Paris, Ibiza and Australia, Richard and his team will be releasing their own range of intelligent light switches and an AI software platform, in their next steps towards creating the world’s most intelligent buildings.
