What to Expect from the College Leadership and Governance Summit: The 10-year lens – colleges in 2030

Summary

This year’s Leadership and Governance Summit will focus on what colleges should look like in 2030 and what seeds we need to plant now to nurture change.  Pulling from the work of the College Commission of the Future, the day will provide an opportunity for college leadership at all levels to explore the change required to deliver on our shared vision for the sector.

This year, we are also delighted to welcome Simon Erlanger, Managing Director, Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd as our closing keynote.  Simon will share the Isle of Harris Distillers’ journey, the important role it plays in sustainable community economic growth and supporting the upskilling and development of Harris’ people.

Who should attend

College Chairs, Board Members, Principals, Senior Leaders, Managers and Team Leaders.

Meet the Keynote Speakers

Audrey Cumberford MBE, Principal & CEO, Edinburgh College and Commission Member
Having graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Education, Audrey moved to Bristol University to take up a two-year graduate assistant lecturer post, undertaking research within the field of sports psychology. Following this, she left the higher education sector and moved into private industry where she held a number of roles within the pharmaceutical and product design industries, specialising in marketing.
After seven years she returned to education, where most recently she led the West Region merger as principal of West College Scotland.
Audrey took up post as principal and chief executive of Edinburgh College on 3 September 2018.

Simon Erlanger, Managing Director, Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd
Simon’s expertise is in the international development of premium spirits brands. After a spell in retailing with Marks & Spencer, he held a variety of commercial roles with what is now Diageo, including several years overseas. For over a decade Simon was Commercial Director of Glenmorangie plc. After the sale and integration of the business into LVMH, Simon left the Company in 2008 and consulted for a number of start-up spirits businesses.
Latterly Simon worked on the establishment of the Isle of Harris distillery where as Managing Director he now oversees the creation of the island’s first spirits, generating sustainable employment for the Outer Hebrides.
Simon commutes weekly between Edinburgh and the Outer Hebrides, the final leg on a Royal Enfield Bullet when weather allows. In 2018 he was awarded IoD SME Director of the Year.
