Bringing you expert advice on how to deliver Learning and Teaching Online CDN has partnered with Jisc to bring you Virtual Bridge, a brand new series of webinars. A direct response to the current crisis, these sessions have been designed to support college staff in delivering remote learning and teaching.
The 30-minute sessions are now running three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11am) and anyone can join for free!

Encouraging Independent Learning Using Video and Audio Approaches

Three approaches to creating video and audio activities to encourage thinking skills and independent learning. The examples are for ASN students but the approaches are adaptable.

Virtual Work Placement and Critical Engineering

The session will be introduced by HMI Peter Connelly from Education Scotland and will feature two examples of meta skills development. The first will be a virtual work placement experience for Foundation Apprenticeship construction learners from Forth Valley College. It will discuss the ongoing development of material and content for delivery collaboration with Morrison’s group and being developed through Articulate – Rise 360, software to enhance interactive engagement. The second will consider the effectiveness of the Critical Engineer programme from West College Scotland and other college partners, which aims to help small businesses prepare for Manufacturing 4.0 and thrive in Scotland’s advanced manufacturing economy, helping them build workplace cultures of innovation and collaboration, and in doing so, develop the meta skills of their staff.

The National Cyber Security Centre at Your Service

A brief introduction to the National Cyber Security Centre, what we’re doing for colleges’ cyber security and opening a conversation about what else we should be doing. We’ll cover a number of (free!) NCSC products and guidance that can really help raise individual colleges’ cyber resilience that you may or may not be aware of, and talk about our future plans.

Sway for Induction and Teams to Teach

Forth Valley College had begun to move to a more digitally-driven model of delivery before the pandemic, and staff had established some strong practice. In this session, we will look at how Sway might be used to manage an effective induction. This will be followed by sharing how Teams, with a well organised model of delivery, can be used effectively for teaching.
